Biography

Masoud Yekta

Tehran - 1971

He began learning music by playing the setar in 1995. After finishing his foundations course with Master Mohammad Ranjbar, he began studying the vocal Radif of traditional Persian music, or order of old melodies, with Master Fereidun Purreza, and solfège with Master Eradehpur Bāyrām. In 1998, he followed his great interest in broadcasting and dubbing concurrently with his musical education by enrolling on a course at the Soroush Arts Workshop, winning first place in the final exam. From 2005, he participated in conservatory courses in pursuit of musical knowledge and singing techniques. He had the honour of studying under masters such as Dr Homa Sadat Afsari, Mohsen Elhamian, Kamaleddin Abbasi, Farzad Noshad, Piruz Arjomand, and the late Master Dabiri, from whose knowledge and presence he benefited immensely and earned his conservatory higher degree in Persian traditional singing awarded by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology. He also continued his calligraphy art at the Society of Iranian Calligraphists with masters in the field, namely Hossein Shakery, Mahmoudi Khansari (brother of the late vocal master Mahmoud Mahmoudi Khansari), and Hossein Sadegh Tehrani, leading to his honours degree. From February 2010, he began his collaboration with his professor, Farzad Noshad (Conductor and Head of Violet Orchestra), as the investor, director, and soloist of the Violet Orchestra. The outcome of this cooperation was the first orchestral repertoire for verses from Rumi and poet Shorab Sepehri, and the performance of seven concerts in Tehran and the provinces over a period of two years.
